Harlingen Attorney Ricardo Barrera was asked by Channel 4 Valley Central News to comment on the legality of Edinburg city council’s recent pledge to make Edinburg a “sanctuary city for the unborn”.
As noted in the news report, abortion is a constitutional right. Ricardo Barrera commented that:
“If you have a city ordinance that’s going to cross beams with that, there are going to be issues in court” and that Edinburg could potentially face lawsuits for restricting abortion.
Ricardo Barrera also encourages citizens to become more actively engaged, to “show up and let their legislators know their feelings on these things”.
